If you’re in the Austin, Texas area, that person is William Vandry, head of the Vandry BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) Academy
What if you found yourself face-to-face with a larger aggressor who wanted to do you some serious harm? Could you defend yourself without a weapon or would you just become another victim of assault, rape or worse?
You may ask yourself, “What could I do against someone who’s bigger and stronger than I am?”
If you knew Jiu-Jitsu, then you could do a lot, and probably win.
Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art fighting system that specializes in joint locks, choke holds, take downs, submissions and ground combat, which is important because most street fights end up on the ground. If you’ve ever watched any mixed martial arts competitions, you’ve seen how effective Jiu-Jitsu techniques can be to successfully take down and submit an opponent.
You might think that learning Jiu-Jitsu is hard and that it takes someone who has a “fighter’s instinct” built into their DNA, but that’s not true. In fact, if you have the right teacher, virtually anyone can learn the necessary techniques to successfully defend themselves regardless of their current skill level.
If learning Jiu-Jitsu or other MMA fighting styles sounds like something you’d be interested in, then you can’t go wrong with learning from a true master of the art. If you’re in the Austin, Texas area, that person is William Vandry, head of the Vandry BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) Academy.
William was one of the first Texans to earn a black belt while studying under the legendary Master Carlos Machado. Since his schooling, William has become a 2nd degree black belt and has won two silver medals and one gold in the Pan American World Championships. In addition, the Vandry Academy offers Muay Thai training and conditioning classes that are taught by Robby Rabadi, brown belt and undefeated MMA competitor.
Students who have learned at the Vanrdy Academy remark on how each class is slowly and deliberately taught so that every student is able to grasp and retain what they’ve learned. While there are those people who study martial arts for the physical conditioning, it’s important to be proficient enough in the event of a physical encounter.
